STAR TREK BEYOND - Review
Star Trek fans have argued relentlessly that the Kelvin timeline is not what Star Trek is known for. J.J. Abrams took the franchise in a direction that emulated Star Wars more than the Original series. Trek movies show more heart, develop characters, & require viewers to think a little bit more than Star Wars ever did. That's why I was a Star Wars fan growing up, and when the 2009 reboot of Star Trek arrived, I loved it. At the time, there was no sign that Star Wars would ever return to the screen, so I accepted that I could become a fan of this new Trek series...which is known as the Kelvin timeline. Now, Abrams has gone to the dark side, and Justin Lin steps in to continue this new Star Trek series. What does that mean? It means they developed my favorite Star Trek in the Kelvin timeline. It's an expanded episode of the original series with 50 years of homages sprinkled about. My one complaint is shaky camera style during action scenes, but that's a problem with all action films.
